The day, which is being supported by the Antiques Trade Gazette, Tarlo Lyons, the BADA and LAPADA, is split into two sessions. Delegates may opt for either the morning or afternoon session, or both.
The title of the morning session is Dealing on the Internet: legal issues and practical challenges. It starts with a general overview given by Tom Flynn, content director of the online service Invaluable, and a former correspondent for the Gazette.
He will be followed by a session on Transacting in art on the Internet: a dealer’s perspective; the speaker for this session has yet to be named. Museums and Websites: copyright implications will be presented by Peter Wienand, a partner in Farrer & Co, and the morning sessions will be rounded off by Simon Stokes, a partner in Tarlo Lyons, speaking on The future of online transactions (including domain names and cybersquatting).
The afternoon sessions focus on the law and come under the umbrella title of Legal implications of online auctions.
They start with Pierre Valentin, a commercial partner of Yahoo Europe, who will speak on The law and practice of setting up and online auction. He will be followed by Ian Snaith, Nelson’s Fellow in Law at the University of Leicester and consultant solicitor to Cobbetts of Manchester, who will speak on Money laundering and the Internet. Frank Meisel, senior lecturer in law at the University of Birmingham and author (with Professor Brian Harvey) of Auctions Law & Practice, starts the second half of the afternoon with a talk on Conventional auction law and practice; and the day will be rounded off by David Miller, associate solicitor at Taylor Joynson Garrett, who will speak on Legal aspects of online auctions.
Experts gather for Internet day
