Offered for sale on July 13 by the Nottingham auctioneers Mellors & Kirk, the jug, in excellent condition, attracted interest from three London dealers who took bidding to around the £20,000 mark, leaving it to two private collectors bidding on the telephone to take the final price to £31,000 (plus 15 per cent buyer premium)
