Auctioneers, dealers and other figures from the trade and associated businesses gathered at the black tie event to see their colleagues honoured in what looks likely to become a firmly established event after only two years.

Michael Grade, a non-executive director of Octopus Publishing, which owns Miller’s, got the ball rolling and was soon followed on the podium by Eric Knowles, chairman of the judging panel for the awards and Master of Ceremonies for the presentation of the awards.

The judging panel was selected from across the trade and included the Gazette’s David Moss. Factors in selecting the shortlist and then the winners included depth of knowledge of antiques, quality of service and stock

There were 21 awards in all, acknowledging dealers, auctioneers, fairs, individuals, writers, and even one for the best antiques town or village.

As well as the main sponsors, awards were presented by the Antiques Trade Gazette, online service provider Antique Street, Miller’s Club, eBay.co.uk and Freeserve.

Held in association with the BBC Homes and Antiques Magazine, the awards to the trade were presented as follows:
