Swann say they have put the sale together following a growing interest in the post-war and Contemporary fields. “Given the growth in the photography and art markets in the past ten years, and the strength of these two departments at Swann, the decision to conduct a Contemporary Art sale was a natural development for us,” said photographs specialist Daile Kaplan.
Over the past five years, Swann have built up these categories, developing separate sections within sales for Contemporary prints, drawings and photos.
Highlights of the November 13 sale include works by Francesca Woodman, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, Tracey Moffatt and Cy Twombly. Viewings will run from 10am to 8pm on Friday, November 9, 10am to 5pm on Saturday the 10th, 10am to 6pm on Monday the 12th and 10am to 4pm on sale day.
Swann to hold first Contemporary Art sale
USA: Swann Galleries will hold their inaugural auction of Contemporary Art on the evening of Tuesday, November 13 at their 104 East 25th Street New York premises. The sale comprises about 170 examples of photo-based artworks, paintings, prints and drawings as well as mixed media pieces and multiples by late 20th century artists.
