Top: bearing the bookplate of Dennis Wheatley, this fine copy of Liam O’Flaherty’s The Informer was sold at £1900 to an American dealer.
Bottom: H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man of 1897 was sold at £2200, while a copy of his first book, The Time Machine of 1895 – again in the original cloth – made £1800.
