Despite the success, earlier this year the couple returned to Wales where they intend to stay permanently. Following her retrospective last year at the National Library of Wales, Claudia has a solo show until August 25 at the Martin Tinney Gallery (6 Windsor Place, Cardiff CF10 3BX. Tel: 029 2064 1411). Her strongly formed compositions in oils (£800-5000) and pastels (£300-900) range from female nudes to the domestic world of family gatherings and seaside trips.

This year watercolourist William Selwyn (born 1933) was the 1st prize winner in the Welsh Artist of the Year Competition and until the end of the month the main gallery of the Albany Gallery (74B Albany Road, Cardiff CF24 3RS. Tel: 029 2048 7158) has a showing of his spirited, atmosphere-imbibed landscapes and seascapes (£500-1800). For 20 years gallery owner Mary Yapp has been the agent for Kyffin Williams, RA (born 1918), whose dour, impasto Welsh landscapes are becoming increasingly sought after. His paintings are included in the gallery’s Summer Exhibition (£450-13,000), which runs alongside that of William Selwyn. Among the 21 other artists represented are Valerie Ganz (born 1936), Chris Griffin (born 1945) and Stan Rosenthal (born 1933).
