After 1935 the van became a coach due to the inclusion of windows down both sides. “To find this model is incredibly rare but to find one in such good condition is almost unheard of,” said Glenn Butler of Wallis & Wallis in Lewes where the van was offered for sale on March 18.

Consigned by a collector of pre-war Dinkys, the van attracted bids on the book, the phone and in the room. With hopes of up to £1500, it fell to a dealer buying on behalf of a private collector for £1850 (plus 15% buyer’s premium).
