The ceramics fair was launched at The Dorchester hotel in 1982 and after two years moved to the Park Lane Hotel where it has been ever since.

Anna Haughton told the Antiques Trade Gazette last week that the move was partly driven by ever-escalating hotel costs, but also because the Park Lane offered no room to expand.

Explaining the Asian development, the organisers, who already stage a New York Asian fair, state: “We have always had a large Asian component in the ceramics fair and these dealers have been saying for a while they would like to bring in a wider range of Asian art.”

Other Asian dealers will join the joint fair, which will be held from June 11 to 14 and occupy different halves of the circular tiers of the new venue; £10 will admit to both.
