Architect-designed furniture from the 1930s to 1950s is the speciality of the house and the collections come from both Europe and the United States. The big names like Alvar Aalto, Marcel Breuer and Charles and Ray Eames are represented but the duo maintain they buy with an aesthetic in mind, and not just a name.

“We have some unknown pieces included in the collection simply because of their design and quality” says David.

The price range at the new business is broad, from £40 for a 1950s Scandinavian glass vase to £7500 for a 1948 Eames plywood screen.

The gallery also hosts a small selling exhibition of original British modernist painting from the 1950s with artists like James Hull, Peter Jones and Edward Rogers.
