Mr Rickett rowed at Eton, and later for the 3rd Trinity Boat Club, Cambridge. After distinguished military service in the Far East in WWII, he became president of Leander Club and a Henley Steward, positions he held for many years. His brother, the late Harold Rickett, was a former chairman of Henley Royal Regatta.

The collection embodies Rickett’s great interest in rowing and comprises some 57 prints and paintings, together with a library collection of some 200 or so books, many of special antiquarian interest to rowers and river enthusiasts.

Included in the sale is what is probably a complete collection of Spy cartoons of rowing greats from Vanity Fair, one shown above, and a complete bound library edition of the British Rowing Almanac (the rowers’ Wisden) from 1862-1986.
