A whole array of work from the 20th and 21st centuries will be on sale in what show organiser Brian Haughton describes as “one of the most expanding markets of the future.”
Modernism is to the fore and the work of the Italian designer Gio Ponti will doubtlessly crop up more than once around the stands. Madison Avenue’s Primavera Gallery, for example, will offer this c.1960 Ponti light fixture in aluminium, lacquer and metal, above, 16in (41cm) square, for $14,500.
Also well worth catching at the fair is the loan exhibition of objects of design from the city’s Museum of Modern Art, which includes one of the most beautiful automobiles of the 20th century, the Italian Cisitalia ‘202’ GT designed by Pinin Farina in 1946 and credited with transforming post-War automobile design.The Museum first exhibited the Cisitalia in 1951 and acquired its bright red model in 1972, the first car to enter the collection of any art museum.

FROM September 25-30 some 34 leading dealers from France, Italy, England, Sweden, Canada and the United States will gather at The Seventh Regiment Armory, Park Avenue, New York City for the fourth International Art and Design Fair.
