Strawser, from Fort Wayne, hosts two majolica sales a year, ranging from entry-level pieces in the $100-500 price bracket to top-notch British wares that have made landmark sums.
Pictured right is the monkey riding a tortoise and using a snake as a rein from the fable Sloth and Mischief, one of the most popular of Copeland pieces.
Below right is one of the best sellers in a 250-lot collection of oyster plates to be included in the Strawser auction promises to be this unusual Minton example, with five fish flanking cobalt blue wells.
Moving into majolica market heartlands
THE majolica market has long been underpinned by American collectors and on April 4-5 Indiana-based Michael Strawser will be selling British, American and Continental pieces at the Alderfer Auction Center in Hatfield Pennsylvania.
