Traditionally numbers are down for the December event but this time crowds turned out and bought. There was much evidence of antiques as Christmas presents so those among the 160 selling smaller items benefited, but even furniture sold well, with local dealer Mair Griffiths having her best Carmarthen of the year.

The March and September Carmarthen fairs are already fully booked with just a few spaces left for July. Away from Towy’s flagship event there are changes for 2003. After seven years they have dropped their fair at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall, deciding it is just too close to their far bigger Carmarthen fair. But in the summer they launch a fair at Aberystwyth hoping to draw custom from its large rural catchment area, North Wales and beyond.

The first Aberystwyth fair will be at Ysgol Pen Weddig, Llanbadarn on August 16 and 17 and is already about three-quarters full, mainly with Towy regulars. Another is set for the same venue on October 25 and 26.
