The moment came on June 8, and though the copy offered by CBPA showed some tanning (browning) and no longer contained the 'Express Whistler' free gift, it sold for £6620, which while still not in the Beano league, was a decent advance on the previous (1999) high of £4400.
Other highlights of the June sale included a "presentable" copy of the first Beano Book, which made £3520 and an Oor Wullie artwork featuring V.E. Day larks and celebrations, at £2050.
Dandy has a No.1 outing
EARLIER this year, when Comic Book Postal Auctions sold a copy of Beano No.1 for a record £11,000, I briefly looked into the reasons why Dandy, which preceded Beano by several months, is not quite so avidly pursued and looked forward to seeing just how much the next Dandy No. 1 to come to auction might make.
