The sale wasn't the most spectacular the Sussex firm has enjoyed but, once again, strong competition from overseas helped keep the action ticking over.
The pistol, with an 18 1/2in (47cm) barrel and fruitwood stock inlaid with staghorn and ivory pellets was one of some 30 foreign triumphs in the 470-lot sale. Against home competition it sold at £2300.
