Most of them sell in the £400-500 price bracket but this example, offered by Elsecar specialists BBR (10% buyer's premium) on May 23, is among the more sophisticated, measuring 8in (20cm) long and reading Glory, Trafalgar Towing Co (1920 Ltd, London 389 High Street, Lambeth. The buyer, who had picked it up at a fair in Norfolk for £130, was no doubt happy to see it sell at £1500, and this despite its damaged funnel.

There are apparently less than 20 known versions of a 6 1/4in (16cm) high jug promoting the merits of Sutherland Grant Mackay & Co., Old Highland Whisky. A very good example here, with typical Doulton Lambeth raised decoration, sold at £1300, the same price as Mother Bunnykins, one of the rare early figures (D6004) designed by Charles Noke that received a very brief production run just before the War.
