The NMM have said they would welcome any information relating to the two paintings – on July 6 they are opening the first ever exhibition to cover Hodges's entire career.
The whereabouts of the controversial works have been a mystery for almost 200 years. They had been part of an exhibition which was closed in January 1795 after the Duke of York believed these paintings to display sympathies for the French Revolution. Contact curator Geoff Quilley on 020 8312 8520.
Missing Hodges
THE National Maritime Museum are asking for help in tracking down two missing paintings by William Hodges. The works The Effects of Peace and The Consequences of War were last seen at a European Museum sale at Christie’s in 1813.
