The chrome and black-painted Art Deco creation - at the time of production it cost a hefty $25 - consists of a miniature bar with cocktail shaker and other cocktail-mixing paraphernalia, complete with a stereotypical red-lipped black bartender making a drink. Around 7in (17cm) tall and 6in (15cm) wide, the bar-front opens to accommodate 30 cigarettes.
There are two versions - a later model with a typical flint strike and the (slightly more desirable) early version with a lighter wick to one side and a match striker to the base.
One of the latter was brought into a recent Taunton valuation day at Greenslade Taylor Hunt (15% buyer's premium). It had some slight discolouration to the chrome but was otherwise in good order. Skipping a nominal £80-120 estimate, on June 10 it sold over the telephone at £1350.
