The 22in (56cm) high silver cross, right, was commissioned especially for the church in the early 1930s and designed by Edward Maufe. Made by the Artificers' Guild, it has an image of Christ being crucified at the top with a wavy line decoration below. It also has the emblem of St Thomas (a builder's square and three spears) on a blue enamel background at the bottom. The cross stands on a circular base which has a slight dent on the left. It is also appropriately hallmarked.
