Hortus Inclusus and Beauty seeing the image of her home in the fountain, both key works by the Birmingham-born artist were both part of an important collection of Southall's work previously owned by the late Alan Fortunoff, an American collector and recently acquired by Bond Street dealers The Fine Art Society. The total purchase price of the two paintings was £355,500 which was raised by a £100,000 grant from the National Art Collections Fund, additional funding from the MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund and a legacy from the late Margaret Bellwood of Chipping Norton.

The Fine Art Society are organising an exhibition of Southall's work for their London gallery which will tour to Cheltenham from April 23 to June 4.
