From May 1 the buyer’s premium at L&T General Antique Sales will be reduced from 17.5% to 15% to be countered by a rise in the premium charged at the company’s Specialist Sales from 17.5% to 19.5% on lots up to and including £50,000. Any balance above £50,000 with be charged at 12%, up from 10%.
While comparable with the rates now charged by the London firms, the new fees – Lyon & Turnbull say they will allow them to be more aggressive when securing major consignments – are the highest in the regional salerooms.
