Company director Mike Scott cited the costs of running a business in the centre of Birmingham, along with the need to find new premises as the end of their Bromsgrove Street lease approached, and the decision of business partner Geoff Sturgess to move overseas, as the reasons for the closure.

However Mr Scott – who joined Weller and Dufty around 15 years ago – will continue as an arms and armour auctioneer with a new business based in the East Midlands. He has resurrected the dormant business name Scot Arms Specialist Auctioneers – a company he operated around 30 years ago – and will trade from the White House, Newark. His first sale of collectable arms and armour will be held at the Newark and Nottingham showground on March 31. His new contact number is 01636 893946/7.

Weller & Dufty were established in 1858 as general auctioneers and estate agents, but chose to become specialist auctioneers shortly after the Second World War.
