The Georgian townhouse with a large Victorian extension was formerly occupied by the National Health Service.

The 6500 square feet of public space has been finished in much the same way as Bonhams' London headquarters in Bond Street and the recently-opened Manhattan saleroom occupying the three ground floors of the IBM building on the corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue.

The auctioneers opened the new rooms with a drinks party on August 18 where more than 400 guests sampled champagne and canapés while touring the new premises.

The first auction at Queen Street was The Scottish Sale on August 27-29.

Bonhams former premises in Edinburgh were at 65 George Street where there were auctions for 176 years - first as Dowells, then Phillips and then Bonhams.
