He joined the BADA staff after five years in the City at Price Waterhouse, bringing a strong grounding in business operations, and he will look to further increase the association’s effectiveness in the future.

“Elaine Dean has transformed this association from a sleepy backwater into the busy and pro-active organisation it is today,” he said. “Naturally I will build on what has gone before, but also introduce and develop my own ideas.

“In my view the antiques trade is currently in a process of flux, brought about by events over which we sometimes have very little control. We should not regard that as a reason to sit back and do nothing; indeed the case for dealers grouping together as part of an association is stronger than ever. That way they stand a better chance of reducing levels of government interference. Furthermore, under the BADA identity they also provide a strong and trusted brand image, a concept familiar to the 21st-century public.”

Elaine Dean, who organised both The Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair and the Burlington House Fair during her career, will continue to work with the BADA on a part-time basis as fairs liaison director.

An in-depth interview with Mrs Dean and Mr Dodgson will appear on the future of the BADA will appear in ATG in the autumn.
