The sixth annual Cheltenham fixture was pencilled in for November 26 to 29 this year but, in a letter to exhibitors, Mrs Nilson wrote: “The fair has always looked very glamorous but there is insufficient exhibitor support this year, which renders the project a little risky.”

The Cheltenham fair, which has enjoyed a loose association with LAPADA, has always been well thought of and well organised, but the good looks have never really translated into particularly good business.

Mrs Nilson, who is also a dealer herself, plans to add two new events to her roster of three intimate, 24-dealer Luxury Antique Weekends and has named one venue, The Totworth Court Four Pillars Hotel near Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, not far from Cheltenham.

This will be launched from February 26 to 28, 2010 and the organiser says “regular Cheltenham exhibitors will initially be offered stand space, always with a careful eye on the balance of disciplines”.

The other 2010 fixture is yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, the next Nilson weekend is at Hellaby Hall near Rotherham, South Yorkshire from April 24 to 26.
