Pictured here is A limestone quarry by Edward Wadsworth (1889-1949) measuring 14½ x 20½in (36 x 52cm). Signed and dated 1942, it is estimated at £10,000-15,000.

Other highlights include an oil painting of Venice by Christopher R.W. Nevinson, two watercolours by John Piper and works by Ivon Hitchens and Edward Bawden.

These paintings are from the collection of Dr John Birch, who died in April. A talented musician, his interest in Modern British Art developed during the 1970s, becoming a pioneering collector of work from artists before they were well-known or fashionable.
