His Serene Highness Ludwig Adolf Peter, Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein (1769-1843) was famously known as 'The saviour of St Petersburg' after his defence of the city against Napoleon's 1812 invasion.

A year later, he was appointed commander-in-chief by the Tsar but replaced after two defeats.
