The design is well known from Ian Hammerton's book W.A.S. Benson: Arts and Crafts Luminary and Pioneer of Modern Design and was offered here, on behalf of a Perthshire vendor, in excellent oxidised condition complete with three Vaseline glass shades by James Powell & Sons and the leafy copper ceiling rose that took it to approximately 3ft 5in (1.05m) high.

Estimated at £2000-3000 for the sale on May 8, it sold at £8000 to an English private collector.

The buyer's premium was 25%.
