'Prima Donna' caricatures George IV's last mistress, the overweight Lady Conyngham, in Theatrical Characters, a rare suite of ten coloured etchings by William Heath that mocks the King, his mistress, ministers, etc. It sold on November 7 at £4800.
Bid to £7000 on the same £600-800 estimate was a second set of just six Heath plates on the same theme, Household Servants. In original cream wrappers, this too was dated to 1829.
A full report on these Golden Age productions appears this week in ATG's Antiquarian Books section.
