They have come to auction from the artist's family and reflect a large portion of his entire oeuvre with the selection including historical paintings, classical interiors, genre scenes, portraits, still lifes and original artwork for 1930s railway posters.
One of the most striking works is A Gift from Caesar, a 20.75in x 2ft 4in (53cm by 72cm) watercolour which is signed and dated 1925. Exhibited at the Royal Institute of Watercolours in 1926, it is estimated at £3000-5000.
The sale also has a collection of works consigned by The Lady Clarissa Collin, daughter of the late Earl of Feversham. Among the four hunting scenes by David Dalby of York (1794-1836) is Chestnut hunter with the huntsman up, a 2ft x 2ft 5in (62cm by 74cm) oil on canvas which is estimated at £3000-5000.
From the same source is a rare group of works by Samuel Dixon (c.1755) and William Hayes (1735-1802), who became known for their 'basso relievo' works of birds and flowers.
A set of four basso relievo embossed paintings showing different foreign and domestic birds by Samuel Dixon is estimated at £3000-5000, while A Red-Headed Wader, a work in basso relievo with hand colouring by William Hayes is estimated at £1500-2000.
