Design sales have long been a key component in Phillips' sale profile. The 296 lots offered in their London rooms on October 1 chalked up a premium-inclusive £5.2m.
New auction highs were set for Lucie Rie (£55,000) and for the work of the unconventional Danish designer and woodworker Peder Moos.
The massive 12ft 5in (3.78m) long oak and maple table, featuring Moos' signature exposed joints, was created in 1952 for the Villa Aubertin (designed by Finn Juhl for the lumber merchant Aubertin) in Rosnaes, Nakskov Fjord.
It had only changed hands once since then to Phillips' vendor.
"We had strong interest in the piece. We had multiple phones from international collectors. All were really recognising the work to be an exceptional example," said Alexander Payne, Phillips' head of design.
An estimate of £150,000-250,000 was overturned as the bidding soared to £500,000, far more than the €100,000 (then around £83,335) paid almost exactly a year ago at Piasa's dedicated Peder Moos auction in Paris.
The price also set a new auction high for Nordic decorative arts, surpassing the £350,000 paid in the same rooms in September 2013 for a Finn Juhl Chieftain armchair made by Neils Vodder.
Elsewhere at the sale, a 8¼ (21cm) diameter inlaid porcelain footed bowl of c.1980 by Lucie Rie also set a new auction high when it sold for £55,000, surpassing the in 2014.
