Georgian townhouse Fairfax House is hosting an exhibition called The Keeping of Christmas, which runs until December 31.

The exhibition reveals how wealthy Georgian society decorated their homes at Christmas, with the finest of silver, extravagant dining table displays and elaborate sweetmeats and confections of sugar sculptures.

Twelfth Night

This Twelfth Night Cake, also known as a wassail cake, was an important part of 18th century Christmas festivities when Twelfth cakes were part of the Twelfth Night revels on the Feast of Epiphany on January 6.

This example was made by food historian Ivan Day.
