The model A grand piano is being sold by Abbey Road Studios who purchased it direct from Steinway in 1973.

It has been housed in Studio 3 ever since and has been used for sessions by a host of famous artists and composers including Tony Bennett, Amy Winehouse, Mumford and Sons, Paul McCartney and many others.

The estimate is £15,000-20,000.

The Piano Auctions sale will just over 100 lots of pianos and piano stools.

There is also a dedicated piano auction taking place on June 21 at Salford, Manchester held by Britannia Piano Auctions.

Meanwhile Gardiner Houlgate’s next sale is fielding enough musical instruments to form several orchestras with over 1500 lots ranging from a theorbo to a euphonium.

This latest quarterly dedicated auction by the Bath auction rooms kicks off on June 16 with over 400 lots of guitars, both classical and electric, vintage and modern, followed by woodwind and other miscellaneous instruments, while the following day is largely given over to stringed instruments and bows.
