It is believed Robert Peters, 55, who is an Asian art specialist working with his brother in the Kensington Church Street area, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after the child was discovered with ‘critical injuries’ at a home in Wimbledon, south-west London, on November 3.

The girl was taken to a south-west London hospital where she died on November 4. Her next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Peters appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on November 4 and will next appear in custody at Kingston Crown Court on December 1.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “The man is known to the victim. No other suspect is sought by police in connection with the incident.”
