The preview of Drawing on Style: Three Masters of Elegance will take place on board the Cunard Lines’ luxurious flagship from August 31 before the show opens in New York on September 5 for New York Fashion Week.

“The influence of fashion illustration is as important now as it was in the 20th century and this exhibition brings a wonderful synergy to the repertoire of fashion being showcased on board,” says fashion writer Colin McDowell, who will deliver an exclusive talk to accompany the exhibition during the crossing.

The artists featured include historic and current fashion illustrators. Kenneth Paul Block (1924-2009) worked in the late 20th century with Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and others. Bil Donovan, a contemporary American illustrator, has worked with Vogue, Dior and The New York Times. Jason Brooks is British and studied at Central St Martins. He counts Elle and Chanel among his clients and has published two books.

The preview has been organised in association with Clarendon Fine Art. Gray mca holds its selling exhibition Drawing on Style annually at New York Fashion Week, giving international collectors a chance to source fashion art. It runs until September 10 at Cheryl Hazan Gallery.

McDowell adds: “Today’s contemporary illustrators owe a great debt to the modern masters of the genre from whom they draw their inspiration. Fashion illustration records the elegance, grace and style of each generation.”
