The museum hopes to raise £15,000 by July 14, just 30 days after its launch, to fund the exhibition May Morris: Art & Life, the UK’s first major survey of her work. A private donor through Art Fund has pledged £5000 if the gallery can raise the initial £10,000.

May’s embroidery and design was influential in its day, though her reputation has since been overshadowed by that of her father. The exhibition seeks to rectify this disparity. She was part of the British Arts & Crafts movement in her own right and a member of the Royal School of Art Needlework where she also taught.

Exclusive rewards, including postcards, tote bags and prints inspired by May’s work are offered in return for all donations which can be made on Art Fund’s Art Happens site.
