1. An 18th century treen ship model
Tucked inside this 18th century treen model of a ship’s hull above is a historic note reading: This was taken out of a writing bureau belonging to Lord Collingwood. I saw the bureau and know its history.
It is a reference to Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood who assumed the role of command-in-chief after Nelson’s death at Trafalgar. The 5½in (14cm) carving carries an estimate of £300-500 at Special Auction Services in Newbury on November 5.

This small silver gilt bowl above, decorated with iconography derived both from ancient Greek mythology and the Eastern Orthodox tradition, is a rare example of 18th century Ottoman Greek silverware.
Each figure has a meaning: the winged figure holding a bow is Eros, symbolic of hope and love; the two deer represent piety and devotion; the wolf the founding of pagan Rome; the pig forbidden food; lastly, the dog is symbolic of patience, loyalty and obedience.
The 5in (12cm) dish carries an estimate of £1500-2000 at the Fine Asian & Islamic Works of Art sale at Lyon & Turnbull on November 6.
