1. Hole punch collection

Retired teacher Peter Duffell’s lifetime collection of hole punches is on offer at Richard Winterton’s auction on September 4 estimated at £200.

Retired teacher Peter Duffell, 82, has consigned his lifetime collection of hole punches to Richard Winterton’s auction on September 4.

Over his 40-year collecting career he has amassed more than 200 examples that will be offered across 10 lots at The Lichfield Auction Centre.

Duffell began collecting in 1978, when he bought a punch by the brand Bullfinch for 50p at Lichfield Market and is keeping only one – a Swedish model dating from 1900.

Items come from Japan, the US, Czechoslovakia and Germany and the grandfather of six believes the collection “covers the whole history of punches from the Victorian era to the 1960s”. The entire collection is estimated at £200.

These two Staffordshire pearlware figures of the seasons c.1800, are offered in the Five Centuries: Furniture, Paintings & Works of Art from 1600 auction at Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh on September 4.

One depicts summer with a cornucopia of fruit, the second autumn with a scythe and wheat. They stand 8in (20cm) and 7½in (19.5cm) high on domed leafy bases, in Prattware colours of browns, oranges, greens, yellows and blues. It is estimated at £200-300. View this lot via thesaleroom.com.

The two-day antiques and fine art sale at Lindsay Burns of Perth on September 3-4 includes the Salvador Ysart collection of Monart and Ysart glass.

Salvador Ysart, who is now in his late 80s, is the son of the Spanish glassmaker Paul Ysart who was the creative force behind Monart – Scotland’s answer to the French art glass movement – and the post-war production of high-quality paperweights that hark back to the wares of the 19th century French makers.

The 17-lot collection, in the family since the pieces were made, includes a series of ink bottles showcasing Paul Ysart’s skills in the traditional techniques of millefiori, latticino and lampwork including this example with a fish estimated at £200-300.

4. Michael Ayrton sculpture

'Daedalus Wingmaker, 1960' by Michael Ayrton – estimated at £10,000-15,000 at the Swan auction in Tetsworth, Oxfordshire.

Actor Andrew Burt (b.1945-2018) became a household name back in the early 1970s playing the role of Jack Sugden in Emmerdale Farm, after which he appeared in numerous television series.

He also assembled a Modern art collection – an interest only his closest friends were aware of. This particularly involved the works of Michael Ayrton (1921-75) and John Milne (1932-78).

Burt’s large collection of art, paintings and bronze sculptures has been consigned for sale at the Swan auction in Tetsworth, Oxfordshire, on September 3.

One of the potential highlights is a bronze by Ayrton, from an edition of six, titled Daedalus Wingmaker, 1960. It measures 18 x 22 x 15in (46 x 56 x 38cm) overall and is estimated at £10,000-15,000.
