But for bagpipe fans there is only one place to be this month – the World Pipe Band Championships and the Piping Live Festival.

Auction house McTear’s plans a dedicated bagpipe auction in Glasgow on August 15 to coincide with these celebrations.

It will feature more than 100 lots including full sets of bagpipes, pipe chanters, practice chanters, small and bellows pipes, history books, music and a host of associated items.

The collection has been amassed over a number of years by an anonymous piping enthusiast and supporter of Edinburgh’s Festival of Ireland (EFI). All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the EFI.
