Norfolk auction house TW Gaze has appointed Robert Henshilwood as book specialist and will re-introduce book sales.
Having first travelled and worked abroad, he began his career in the auction world in 2008 as saleroom assistant at Keys in north Norfolk. He moved to the Keys book department as a valuer and became head of department in 2015.
TW Gaze director Elizabeth Talbot said: “Robert’s arrival will enable us to reintroduce dedicated book auctions as required plus bespoke sections in other specialist sales. Book auctions used to be regular features at Diss Auction Rooms and they have been greatly missed by many people.”
Henshilwood is based in the saleroom in Roydon Road, Diss, but will also be available by appointment at the firm’s Wymondham office and will make valuation visits when necessary.
The reintroduction of book sales at TW Gaze is the latest sale programme change for regional auction houses.
Themed auction launch
Cotswold auction firm Moore Allen & Innocent has launched a series of themed sales for 2019. It plans 13 themed sales across the year beginning with a New Year Interiors Sale on January 11.
This will be followed by a February Boys' Toys and Collectables sale; an Architectural sale in March; three Sparkle and Fizz events featuring wine and jewellery in April, July and December; two Oriental and Tribal sales in May and November; a 20th Century Design sale in June; a Summer Interiors auction in August; Hunting, Shooting and Fishing in September; Home Furnishings, Costume and Fashion in October. The December Sparkle and Fizz sale will also include toys.
Moore Allen & Innocent has introduced a number of changes including new fees and charges to encourage more people to attend the saleroom.
American appointments
Over in the US, Heritage Auctions’ Dallas office has hired Mark Wilson as comics consignment director. Wilson, a collector and dealer of comics and comic art for more than three decades, has also worked as an advisor for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide since 1986. He began collecting as a child when he acquired his first Spider-Man issue at the age of nine.
Heritage Auctions co-founder Jim Halperin said: “He is one of those lucky ones who was able to turn a passion that started during his childhood into his career. His understanding of comics and the comic trading hobby reveal the interest he developed early on as a personal collector and the knowledge he acquired while working in every phase of the industry.”

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers has appointed Jon King as senior consultant for the south east region. He has extensive auction experience as both an appraiser and in business development for the New York, California and Florida markets.
He started in the 1980s at Sotheby’s in Los Angeles and New York and has also worked at Butterfield Los Angeles gallery and Bonhams New York.
He will primarily work at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ Atlanta office of but will also spend time assisting clients in Florida.
