Phillips 

Phillips has hired Kirsten MacDonald (above) as regional director for Scandinavia, based in Copenhagen. She will work with Phillips’ senior executives in Europe, Asia and the US.

MacDonald was recently head of sales and shipping for Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers in Copenhagen. Prior to this she held the position as the US representative for Bruun Rasmussen in New York and previously worked in shipping.

Prof Paul O’Prey, the new chair of the board of trustees for The Edward James Foundation.

Prof Paul O’Prey has been appointed chair of the board of trustees for The Edward James Foundation which is responsible for West Dean College of Arts and Conservation. At the end of the year O’Prey will replace Peter Benson who is stepping down after 17 years as a trustee, 10 of them as chairman. 

The foundation is a charitable trust founded by poet Edward James (1907-84), a patron of the Surrealism movement.

Valuer Steven Hill has joined Camarthen auction house Peter Francis as its Cardiff representative.

Valuer Steven Hill has joined Camarthen auction house Peter Francis as its Cardiff representative. The former president of the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA) has been a valuer for four decades. He will give free valuations on the first Thursday of every month at Llandaff Rowing Club in Cardiff and is also available for house visits by appointment.  The dates for his next valuation days are November 7, December 5 and January 2.

Marc Burridge, managing director of Clevedon Salerooms in north Somerset, is celebrating his 50th year in the auction business.

His career started in 1969 with a job at Lalonde Auction Rooms in Clifton, Bristol and he made the move to Clevedon in 1974 when the saleroom was part of Alonzo Dawes & Hoddell (later Hoddell Pritchard).

In 1991 Burridge became a joint owner of Clevedon Salerooms and he would be pleased to hear from former colleagues who have stories to share from the “good old days”.

Tennants Auctioneers

Tennants in Leyburn has launched a sporting art sale, with the inaugural auction planned for January 11, 2020. It will take place three times a year, in January, April and September, and will coincide with its Country House sales.

The Yorkshire firm has also reorganised its Jewellery, Watches and Silver sales annually.
