A Dunhill Namiki pen c.1930 – £2900 at Hansons.
Best by a distance was the c.1930 Dunhill Namiki pen. With gilt leaf and praying mantis decoration to the 5¼in (13.5cm) long, maki-e lacquered barrel, it sold to a Japanese buyer at £2900 against an estimate of £500-800.
Most of the household names of the early/mid 20th century were represented – an 18ct gold Swan self-filling pen at £190, three Sheaffer pens, a Targa, a Prelude and an Imperial II at £80 and an ST Dupont, Classique ballpoint pen at £160.
Parker Duofolds, one of yesteryear’s great favourites, proved hard to sell against £350-550 estimates, although two from the 1940s-’50s doubled expectations at £190.
