House sale to rival Mymms

The contents of Godmersham Park, Kent, which was furnished by Mr and Mrs Robert Tritton during the 1930s, will be auctioned by Christie’s in June, and the sale is expected to rival Mymms Park as the largest house sale held by them since the war.

The contents include outstanding English and French furniture, a library, pictures and the jewellery of Mrs Tritton, who died this year aged 94.

Traditional on-the-premises house sales like this are themselves rare species now. The auction profile, too, is redolent of a different era: dominated by American private buying with big spending on early Georgian furniture.
