The large library of the late Richard Adams (1920-2016), the author of Watership Down, will be offered for sale at Dominic Winter of Cirencester on December 14.

The collection, which has been consigned by his family, runs to about 1500 books and has been divided into 134 lots, valued at £200,000-300,000 overall.

A highlight is this second folio from 1632 of William Shakespeare’s plays, guided to sell for £40,000-60,000. It is estimated that no more than 1000 copies were printed, and it is believed fewer than 200 copies are still in existence.
