As covered in our recent interview (ATG No 2271) with managing director Stephen Whittaker, Birmingham auction house Fellows has been a trailblazer in such dedicated sales.

The saleroom has a packed calendar of specialist auctions once again this year and on January 12 antique and modern jewellery lots are on offer.

Fellows says “the real stars of the show have to be the diamonds”, and pictured here is a 4ct Art Deco diamond ring estimated at £6000-8000.

Elsewhere, among a strong-looking designer section, lots 309-324 are all Cartier pieces. Highlights include single-stone diamond rings and a Bicentennial enamel postage stamp pendant.

Bulgari, Fope, Tiffany & Co and Van Cleef & Arpels are some of the other designers who feature in this auction.

Fellows adds: “It is worth noting the two pieces in this auction from Greek jeweller Ilias Lalaounis (b.1920). It is easy to see where his inspiration came from when designing the necklace and earrings in this sale. They are both reminiscent of pieces from ancient Greece.”

Meanwhile, Woolley & Wallis of Salisbury is offering nearly 390 lots of jewellery and watches in its January 26 sale, including a collection of cameos and intaglios. Highest-estimated lot is a Cartier emerald and diamond bracelet at £20,000-30,000.
