In keeping with the interests of the group, Leblanc was interested in redefining the traditional experience of viewing artworks, giving canvases new depth and working with minimalism and abstraction.

His works address rhythm and light using unconventional materials such as thread, latex, PVC and metal.

Cortesi Gallery’s ongoing exhibition Walter Leblanc Sensorial Geometries offers a selection of pieces by the artist.

One of the earliest among them is Twisted strings 15 FH90 (1958-59), measuring 2ft 2in x 21½in (65 x 54cm), in which the focus is torsion in the stretch of thread over the canvas.

Works in the show, at the Maddox Street gallery until July 21, range in price from €100,000-350,000.
