From the library of Graham Adams, a magician and himself a writer on card manipulation, it was lotted with a bound collection of extracts Adams’ own 1930s columns in the Conjuror’s Chronicle.
Houdini marvel
This Chicago saleroom’s principal speciality is magic and conjuring and earlier this year, in a February 4 sale, it claimed a record for any magic poster at auction when the 1912 example pictured above sold for $95,000 (£73,645).
In this poster Houdini is shown locked upside down and underwater in the ‘Torture Cell’, in what is perhaps the most famous escape trick he ever invented and performed.
