Cotton and wool tapestry from Peru (probably Cuzco) dated to c.1600, estimated at €60,000-80,000 at Piasa on June 15.
They were acquired three decades ago by a Parisian collector from the Galerie Catan, the well-known dealer in carpets and tapestries in Paris from 1956-81 that supplied leading decorators.
One of the highlights of the sale will be this 11ft 4in x 10ft 9in (3.46 x 3.27m) cotton and wool tapestry from Peru (probably Cuzco) which is dated to c.1600, making it one of the earliest known weavings from that region.
The iconography, which includes lions, parrots, owls and foliate scrolls on an ecru ground, reflects a mix of Inca and Renaissance European influences. It is estimated at €60,000-80,000.
