Urban Art 2017 is London’s largest annual open-air contemporary arts fair and was launched 16 years ago by local resident and artist Timothy Sutton. He says: “I realised that the railings were a natural open-air gallery and knew from experience about the lack of affordable exhibition space, so this was a no-brainer really.”
International printmaker Stefan Gnosspelius, who has exhibited at this fair since 2002, says: “The atmosphere is always great and the feedback from the public is very encouraging. It’s one of my highlights of the year and one of the reasons I love living in Brixton.”
With 10,000 visitors expected at this year’s al fresco event on Saturday and Sunday, July 8-9, this is a good opportunity to buy original art from prices under £10 to over £1000.
The railings open, as it were, from 10am to 6pm on both days. The nearest station is Brixton, 10 minutes walk away.
