CHINESE WORKS OF ART

This scene titled ‘the befriending of cranes’ is just one small section of an 11in x (27 x 85cm) ink on paper handscroll by the Ming dynasty calligrapher Du Jin (c.1465-1509). The painting is followed by four contemporary colophons, including Sang Yue (1447-1513) dated 1480 (a decade before the painting), Jin Cong (1449-1501), Xu Zhenqing (1479-1511) and another by the so-called ‘wild man of Changsha’.
